Glass Straw Review

I was recently given the chance to review some glass straws and I am so glad I did!

I want to start with saying that over the years, we have tried many reusable straws, all plastic and they never last. They either break or get disgusting on the inside.

While these are made of glass, they are made of a durable glass they is near shatter proof. I had one roll off the cupboard while washing dishes and it bounced, no cracks or breaks.

They are wide, perfect for all drink types. Easy to clean and even come with a wire brush for easy cleaning.

Since we got these, almost two weeks ago, they have been used almost every day. They are very well loved and used in this house!

I would highly recommend these to anyone who is looking for a durable, easy to clean, environmentally friendly drinking straw.

Boot Cuff Knitting Pattern





Boot Cuff Pattern

I love the look of the boots that have the pretty cuff on the top and even more, I like having plain boots and making cuffs so I can change out the colors depending on what I am wearing. I came up with this cute pattern and wanted to share with everyone.

Items needed -
Chunky yarn ( pictured is using I love this chunky )
Size 15 needles
Needle for sewing

Abbreviations -
CO - cast on
K2 - Knit two
P2 - Pearl two

Pattern -
Siz:es are XS/SM in ( ) or M/L

CO on
(30) 35 stitches
Row 1 -5 - K2, P2 across row
Row 6 - Pearl across row
Row 7 - Knit across row
Row 8 - Pearl across row
Row 9 - Knit across row

Cast Off
Seam together.

Bow option 1 - 



You can use the same yarn or a solid color if you want the bow to stick out more.

Wind in middle to create bow look
Attach to cuff ( I attached so the whole bow was sewn down flat.

Attach to cuff but do not sew whole bow down. This makes the bow pop more.

A reminder to be kind

Christmas is just around the corner and while this time of year is very joyous for many, it brings a lot of heart ache and pain to others.

Every single day you pass someone who is struggling and you may not even now it. Reaching out to those around you is especially important around the Holiday season.

I teach my kids to be giving all through out the year but we take time to do special things around Christmas, we want to make sure our children see just how important being kind to others is and just how easy it is to touch a life, there are so many simple things you can do that would mean so much to someone else.

I have included a small list of some simple things you can do to make someone else feel special -

1. Visit them
- If you know someone that is lonely this season, take the time to go and see them. Bring a batch of freshly made Christmas cookies and some hot chocolate, sit and visit with them. This little gesture takes little more than just your time and would mean the world to that person.

2. Give a little gift
- You don't even have to say it was from you. Wrap something and leave it in their car, on their front steps or somewhere else you know they are sure to get it

3. Write a letter
- Don't just send a generic Christmas card, take the time to write a letter to those that are far from you. Include an updated picture of your family.

4. RAOKS
- Take the time to do some random acts of kindness this season. Pay for a strangers coffee, pass out flowers to people you don't know, just do something kind and unexpected.

5. Invite someone to your home
- Know someone without family or friends to spend Christmas with? Invite them to your house, spread the love that this holiday season is truly about.

Indoor winter fun ideas

Winter is well on it's way here in Iowa which means I need to buckle down and come up with a list of indoor fun for my kids. Having a daughter with a cold allergy ( http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/cold-urticaria/basics/definition/con-20034524 ) means that our outdoor times becomes very limited once the cold season is here.

In our small town, there is only two places you can go for indoor activity. The play place at our local DQ and our Rec Center. The pool at the rec center is too cold for Kairi but we may still use the gym. We do take advantage of the DQ play area at least a couple times a month.

We also bought a personal sized trampoline to help the kids burn some energy. If you do this, I suggest reading a lot of reviews before you buy one. I am not overly pleased with the one we bought, it does the trick but it has flaws that I am not happy about.

We also bought a family pass to the science center, which I plan on using a lot. I won't go out on days that are below a certain temp, it is just not worth the risk to Kairi but on our warmer winter days, we will be spending time at the science center.

Since a lot of winter time will be spent at home, indoors, I have to find ways to stop cabin fever from setting in. Movies and board games only entertain for so long before I have stir crazy children who need something to do.

I have a small list of activities so far, this list will grow as the season progresses and I would love to get other ideas from people.

Gearing up for our new school year

At the Walters's house, we home school year round. We are in the last few weeks of our 2014/2015 school year and the 2015/2016 school year starts the day after Labor Day. I have been busy prepping lessons and making plans for a fun year ahead of us!

This year I will have Alex in 4th, Destiny in 3rd, Kairi in 1st, Amelia in PreK and a of course Cassandra will be toddling around, causing mischief for sure. There are days that I feel very overwhelmed with the work load but I know we can do this!

This year we are adding three new classes to our normal schedule ( Reading/Language Arts, Math, Science and History ), We are adding art, health and a bible study. I have not ordered anything yet, still looking at a couple and trying to decide what I want to use.

I think big things are to come this year! I am looking forward to seeing all the advancements the kids make and everything they are about to learn!

It's been awhile







I can't believe how long it has been since I sat down and blogged. We have been busy and I have just fallen out of the habit of sitting down to write. Recently, I decided to change that I am I have made a goal to post once a week.

I am sure you noticed that I completely revamped the look of the blog and added new pictures. It was long over due, the most recent pictures were a year old already. The kids have grown and changed so much! Our youngest is already a year and a half old. She no longer looks like a baby. It seems like one day just not that long ago she woke up and had lost that baby look.

Life has been busy here at the Walters home! I want to take some time to give a little update on everyone!

Chris and I had our tenth anniversary this year! It does not seem like it was that long ago that we got married!







Alex turned nine this year. 


He is big into minecraft, pokemon and power rangers. He spends his days reading ( favorite series right now is diary of wimpy kid ), playing with his friends, he is a boyscout, playing games on his tablet, playing minecraft and just enjoying life.
This was his first year that he was able to go to summer camp through out church. He loved it and had an amazing time! The team he was on won second place for most points ( earned from answering questions and good behavior ), he was in a play ( he played the mighty David ) and I was told he was so sweet he earned the name camp sweetheart. I just love this boy.


Destiny turned eight this year.


She is very much so a girly girl. Love all things pink and sparkly. Over the summer she has come leaps and bounds in her reading, I think she is about ready for some chapter books and she is very excited about this. She spends her time coloring, playing with friends, loves to be outside, enjoys helping in the garden, crafts and is in tumbling. She is a very good helper and growing up into a lovely young lady!



Kairi turned six this year. 


She enjoys being outside, playing with friends, I think she would live at the zoo or in the pool if we let her,  loves being at church and has changed so much in the last year. You may remember from older posts that Kairi has lead poisoning when she was younger. We have been dealing with this issue for many years and I swear turning six just flipped a switch in her. She is just so different lately.
She loves learning, we have been working on reading and writing over the summer. She just soaks up every minute of it. 




Amelia turned four this year.


She is following in her oldest sister footsteps. She loves pink, girly things and shoes. Her favorite thing is frozen and sings Let it go all day long. She started doing some preK work this year and is learning very fast. She loves friends, being outside, the pool and coloring.
Picking flowers is one of her most favorite past times. She does not care what kind of flower, just likes to pick them and make presents for people she loves.



Cassandra turned one this year. 



She is a shy girl. She loves to play outside, being with her family and climb on everything. Since learning to walk, she has also learned to climb like you would not believe. She gets on the kitchen table, computer desk and anything else she can get on.
She loves chocolate, music and the swings at the park. She is not very outgoing but that is okay. She is very much so a mommy's girl and not very fond of going places she does not know. She is my little cuddle bug.
